Club Helsinki Hudson to welcome Black Uhuru
Hudson, N.Y. — Club Helsinki Hudson will welcome reggae band Black Uhuru Saturday, Sept. 22, at 9 p.m.

With roots in Jamaica’s reggae scene dating back to the 1960s, Black Uhuru is one of the few bands that can claim continuity throughout the near-60 years of reggae history. Still led by founder Derrick “Duckie” Simpson, the group’s music maintains the original countercultural aspects of reggae combined with deep, funky dance grooves. The group garnered global recognition in the late 1970s and early 1980s, touring with bands including the Clash, the Police and the Rolling Stones. The group is also known for its longtime association with legendary rhythm section and production duo Sly and Robbie. With 14 full-length albums, seven instrumental dub album, and four live albums, Black Uhuru boasts the highest record sales in reggae music behind Bob Marley. Aside from winning the first reggaeGrammy Award in 1984, Black Uhuru has been nominated seven times.

Tickets are $28–$38. For tickets and more information, see the Berkshire Edge calendar or contact Club Helsinki Hudson at (518) 828-4800.
